Consultative School Board

Purpose

At SFA, one of our core support organizations is our Consultative School Board. The primary tasks of the board are to participate in the policy-making process of the school by formulating, adapting, and recommending policy to the principal and the pastor. Per our by-laws, the pastor and principal are required to consult the board before making decisions in designated areas, but are not bound by the board’s advice. Areas in which the board is consulted include:

  • Planning (establishing a mission statement, goals, future plans)

  • Policy Development (formulating policies that give general direction for administrative action)

  • Financing (including budgeting and policies for financial management)

  • Development (including public relations, marketing, and enrollment management)

  • Recommendation of the selection/appointment of the principal through Search Committee

  • Evaluation of goals and relationship of principal to Board

  • Major curriculum changes, especially in the area of religious education.

Those who join the board serve a term of three years, with an option to serve an additional term at the request of the pastor or principal.

The full board meets approximately every other month beginning in August. Full board meetings occur in August, October, January, February, and April. Standing committees meet between full board meetings and as needed.
